Teachers Taking Advantage of Web 2.0 Brown Bag 4/11/2007, 12:00 PM ~ 1:00 PM 23 Illini Hall Web 2.0, dubbed "the Participatory Web," is a loose descriptor for a wide variety of services enjoying rapidly-growing popularity on the Internet: video-sharing services such as YouTube; blogging and wiki services like Wikipedia, Blogger and BlogLines; iTunes and other podcasting channels; image sharing with Flickr, PhotoBucket, etc.; and social software like FaceBook, digg, and del.icio.us. Web 2.0 services are heralded as a next generation Internet due to their ease of use, focus on social behaviors, preferences, and occasional wisdom of regular folks, and the opportunities it presents via today's faster internet connections for any mom, pop, or desktop grandma to edit, publish and change the world. Do Web 2.0 services offer an expanded set of possibilities for education? How much is hype and how much can help us with teaching and learning? Come join our panel as they share case studies of Web 2.0's impact on actual courses. (Please email Doug Mills if you have any experiences using Web 2.0 technologies such as wikis, blogs, podcasting, multimedia repositories, etc. with your classes that you'd like to share!
